Privacy

The short version

• You can read every page here, copy every prompt and use every demo without an account, and we will never know who you are.
• If you sign in, the only thing we store about you is a bookmark list.
• The demos run entirely in your browser. Nothing you do inside one is sent to us.
• We do not sell your data, share it with data brokers or run ad trackers.

Analytics

Two tools count what pages get read. Both are running now, on every page except the 404 and the internal share-image routes.

PostHog, first-party

PostHog (US region) counts pageviews and clicks. It is reverse-proxied through this site's own /ph/* path, so the request goes to freethe.app and not to a third-party domain, and the proxy strips cookies on the way through.

It is anonymous. Nothing on this site ever calls identify(), so no person profile is built and no event is tied to a name or an email — including for readers who are signed in. Session recording is off, so nothing here watches your screen. Autocapture is on, which means a click is recorded as the element it landed on. Three events are recorded deliberately: copy_prompt,open_platform and open_agent. Each one carries the app's slug and, where relevant, the name of the tool you opened. Nothing else.

Google Analytics 4, third-party

Google Analytics (property G-9RWJCQN9PE) also runs here, and this one we cannot dress up: the script is loaded from googletagmanager.com, so your browser makes a request to Google on every page, and Google receives your IP address and sets its own cookies. It is here because it is what links to Search Console, and search is how most people find this site.

If you would rather it did not, a content blocker or Google's ownopt-out add-on will stop it, and the site works exactly the same without it. PostHog is first-party and will keep counting; nothing about that changes what you can read or copy.

Accounts

Accounts are being built and will ship shortly. This section describes them ahead of time so it is not written after the fact.

Signing in

Google or GitHub only. There is no password field anywhere on this site, so no password of yours is ever set, sent or stored, and there is no reset flow to hijack. From the provider we receive an email address, a display name and an avatar URL. Your session is an HTTP-only cookie, which the site's own JavaScript cannot read.

What we then hold

Bookmarks. A bookmark is a row of three things: your user id, an app's slug, and when you saved it. There is no profile, no preferences, no reading history and no second table. Alongside that sits ordinary sign-in bookkeeping — the OAuth tokens that keep you signed in, and the IP address and browser a session was created from, which is also what stops someone hammering the sign-in route.

The demos

Every demo on this site is a single HTML file that runs in your browser. It has no server behind it. Whatever you type into one is gone when you close the tab: nothing is saved to your device and nothing is sent to us.

There is one exception worth naming. Three demos — Cal AI, CamScanner and PictureThis — have an "Ask ChatGPT" button. It hands a photo you chose to an app you chose, using your own device's share sheet or clipboard. The photo does not pass through freethe.app, and we never see it. What the app on the other end does with it is between you and them.

What we don't do

• No advertising trackers, no ad pixels, no retargeting.
• No cross-site tracking. We do not follow you anywhere, and nothing here is trying to recognise you on another site.
• No selling, renting or sharing your data with data brokers. Not for money, not for "partnerships".
• No email you did not ask for. There is a newsletter, it is off unless you tick the box, and nothing goes to an address that has not opted in.
• No passwords, because there is no password login.
• No payment processing. Nothing on this site is for sale, so no card details reach us or anyone acting for us.

Who else touches it

The complete list of companies that process anything on our behalf. If this list grows, this page changes on the same day.

Cloudflare

Hosting and database. The site is served from Cloudflare Workers and accounts and bookmarks live in Cloudflare D1. Cloudflare handles every request to this site and keeps its own short-lived logs for security and performance.

PostHog

Analytics, US region, proxied through this domain as described above.

Google Analytics

Analytics, loaded from Google's own domain.

Google and GitHub

Identity providers, and only if you choose to sign in with one. If you never sign in, neither of them hears from us about you.

We may also hand over data if the law compels it, or transfer it to a buyer if the business is sold — in which case the buyer inherits this policy. Data is processed in the United States.

Deleting your data

Email contact@freethe.app from the address on your account and we will delete the account and every bookmark attached to it. No exit survey, no soft-delete, no "are you sure" chain. We will do it within 30 days and usually the same week; backups roll off within 30 days after that.

You can ask for a copy of what we hold, or a correction, at the same address. If you have never given us an email address, there is nothing to delete: the analytics above are anonymous and not attached to a person we could look you up in. If you gave us one without making an account, email us from it and it goes.

The formal bit

If you are in the EU, the UK or Switzerland: our legal basis for accounts and bookmarks is contract — we cannot save your bookmarks without storing them. Our basis for analytics and for rate limiting the sign-in route is legitimate interest, which we think is a fair trade for anonymous counting and no ads. You have the right to access, correct, delete, port, restrict or object, and to complain to your local supervisory authority. Email us first; a person reads it.

If you are in California: the categories we collect are the ones named above and nothing else. We do not sell personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioural advertising. Exercising any of these rights will never get you a worse version of this site, because there is only one version.

This site is not aimed at children and we do not knowingly collect anything from anyone under 13. If you think we have, email us and it goes.

Traffic is encrypted in transit. No system is perfectly secure; if we learn of a breach affecting your data we will tell you and the relevant regulators as the law requires.

Changes, and how to reach us

When this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it and the new version is posted here. If a change is material — a new sub-processor, a new category of data — we will say so on the site rather than quietly editing a line.
